Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.

Information of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia, сoncerning the eighteenth meeting within the framework of international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia

On December 14, 2011 ended eighteenth round of Geneva international discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia. Delegations of the Republic of South Ossetia, Republic of Abkhazia, Georgia, Russian Federation, US, as well as EU, UN and OSCE representatives participated the meeting. South Ossetian delegation was headed by plenipotentiary representative of the President Boris Chochiev.

On December 13 within the framework of meeting was held information session on legal aspect and international practice concerning the problem of missings. In the course of discussions held on December 14 took place exchange of opinions on current situation at the boarders of the Republic of South Ossetia and Republic of Abkhazia with Georgia. It was mentioned that although the situation is stable, violations of state border line, including by Georgian pilotless vehicles tacking place.

Results of the meetings within the frameworks of Mechanisms on prevention and reaction on incidents that were contributive in border incidents solving were positively marked. Delegations of South Ossetia and Abkhazia once again highlighted the necessity of working on definition of state border line with Georgia.

As at the previous meetings, Southossetian delegation paid a special attention to the necessity of more active work over the elaboration of juridically binding document of non-use of force, consolidating refusal of Georgia from power actions against South Ossetia and envisaging security guarantees. Russian Federation and the Republic of South Ossetia proposed their projects of appropriate document. At that was again highlighted the necessity of taking into account on main conclusions of independent EU commission report that acknowledged Georgia’s responsibility for armed aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008.

At the session were criticized attempts of Georgia to impose to the international community an illegitimate use of idea of ‘’occupied territories’’ in respect of the Republic of South Ossetia and Republic of Abkhazia, as well as the transferring of the issue of security guarantees to the realm of Russo-Georgian relations. Southossetian delegation suggested to discuss a competency of using of “occupation” term in regard of the Republic of South Ossetia by some international organizations.

Southossetian representatives focused the attention of participants on new facts concerning the missing citizens of the Republic of South Ossetia and demanded to intensify the activity in investigation of their destiny and include this issue to the agenda of following meetings.
