Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.
One-tenth of the surface occupied by the Republic of the foothills.
The rest of the territory - the mountainous terrain height from 850 to 3938 meters above sea level.
The highest point - Mount Halatsa (3938 m).

A working meeting between members of South Ossetian delegation to Geneva Discussions, headed by Murat Jioev, Presidential Envoy on post conflict resolution and Co-chairmen of Geneva Discussions on security and stability in Transcaucasia from EU, OSCE and UN took place in Tskhinval on 11 March 2014 in anticipation of the forthcoming round of the discussions.


The main subject of the meeting was on preparations to the 27th round of Geneva Discussions planned for 25-26 March 2014.

During the meting the sides discussed security situation in the border adjoining territories between South Ossetia and Georgia and ways of stabilization including efficiency upgrading of the existing joint incident prevention and response mechanisms (IPRM).

South Ossetian side expressed its readiness to constructive and effective cooperation in the frame of the forthcoming round of discussions and underlined again the importance of signing of a legally binding agreement on non-use of force between Georgia and South Ossetia.

A substantial conversation took place on humanitarian issues, particularly on those still missing in action and citizens of South Ossetia unfoundedly sentenced in prisons Georgia.

After the meeting the co-chairmen visited village Ditsi to see state border between South Ossetia and Georgia.

The Co-chairmen’s visit to Leningor region of the Republic is planned for 12 March where they will meet with the Head of the Administration and local population.
