Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.

January 11, 2018 saw a meeting of Anatolii Bibilov, the President of the Republic of South Ossetia, with Ljubisa Cosic, Head of East Sarajevo municipality.


During the meeting the parties discussed issues of development of friendly relations and ways of cooperation between Tskhinval and East Sarajevo, in particular in spheres of education and culture. The parties expressed readiness to promote establishment and strengthening of inter-municipal cooperation.

Later the South Ossetian President Anatolii Bibilov and members of the South Ossetian delegation laid a wreath to the monument to Vitaly Churkin, the permanent representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, built in East Sarajevo in tribute to the Russian diplomat who passed away untimely and whose life was closely connected with the events in the Balkans. In particular, in 2015 Vitaly Churkin vetoed the UN Security Council’s draft resolution on Srebrenica, recognizing the events of 1995 as genocide.

Milorad Dodik, the President of the Republic of Srpska, posthumously awarded Vitaly Churkin with the Order of the Serbian Flag of the First Degree.

Later the South Ossetian delegation visited graves of the Russian volunteers.
