Republic of South Ossetia is located оn the southern slopes of the Main Caucasus Range in the area of 3900 square meters. Тhe capital is the city of Tskhinval.
One-tenth of the surface occupied by the Republic of the foothills.
The rest of the territory - the mountainous terrain height from 850 to 3938 meters above sea level.
The highest point - Mount Halatsa (3938 m).

The Plenipotentiary of the President of RSO on post-conflict settlement M. K. Dzhioev heading representatives of the Ossetian side on the Geneva International Discussions met the Co-chairmen of the Geneva Discussions who visited Tskhinval on February, 16.


Current issues of the forthcoming 31st round of the discussions that is held on March, 17-18, 2015 has been talked over.

- Mr. Sanakoev, taking into consideration the current situation in Ukraine and imposed sanctions, the situation in Russia and its allies can possibly be characterized as extremely intense. Russia is the main strategic partner of South Ossetia. How are security issues and the issues of the borders reinforcement solved, taking into account that by this time the contract on non-use of force with Georgia hasn’t been signed?


— Definitely, the world now is facing a difficult period when a new regime of international relations is being generated. This is going to be a long-lasting process with hardly predictable future. New problems, challenges concerning human security and the humanity development arise annually. Thus Russia should constantly look for contemporary means to ensure stability worldwide.

Comment by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Pertaining to the statement of Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO

A number of statements made by Jens Stoltenberg, Secretary General of NATO, marked the press conference organized after the NATO -Georgia committee meeting. Russia was urged to call back the recognition of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Anxiety over the forthcoming agreement signing between South Ossetia and Russia was expressed.

On 27 of December the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia David Sanakoev played host for the delegation of Donetsk People Republic MFA headed by DPR Foreign Minister A. I. Kofman who came to Tskhinval with a working visit.


In the course of a detailed conversation were discussed a perspective directions of bilateral cooperation in different realms as well as a development of political dialog in the view of recognition of Donetsk People Republic by the Republic of South Ossetia. A separate issue of discussion became perspectives of constructive interaction between the foreign ministries of RSO and DPR.

Statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of South Ossetia

Military training centers for NATO members and its partners will be created on territory of Georgia announced the representative of the alliance. Next manoeuvers of NATO will also take place in Georgia this year. What is more, such maneuvers will be staged in the country regularly.

On 2 of September the delegation of the Republic of South Ossetia headed by the Foreign Minister D. G. Sanakoev took part in the celebrations in Tiraspol dedicated to the 24th anniversary of Transdnistrian Moldovan Republic establishment.


Within the frameworks of festive events eventuated the meeting of Southossetian delegation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Transdnistrian Moldovan Republic N. V. Shtanski. During the meeting were discussed the issues of priority directions of cooperation and particularly, on the line of foreign agencies. Transdnistrian side transferred to the delegation of South Ossetia draft warding of renewed Agreement of friendship and cooperation for the following revision and coordination. Decision of necessity of renewing of existing agreement had been taken by the Presidents of South Ossetia and Transdnistria Leonid Tibilov and Evgeny Shevchuk earlier. The parties also discussed the perspectives of conducting in 2015 quadripartite meeting of Foreign Ministers of South Ossetia, Transdnistria, Abkhazia and Nagorno-Karabakh.
